Cordless impact drivers: high torque for long and large screws

Driving long screws into hardwood, frames or decking by hand, or with an ordinary drill, is slow and tiring. A cordless impact driver adds rapid rotational impacts to the turning motion, so screws go in quickly and smoothly with very little effort and hardly any kick-back to your wrist. Batavia impact drivers range from a compact 12V model to a brushless 18V powerhouse with 350 Nm of torque.

Our cordless impact drivers

Typical applications

  • Building decking, pergolas, patio covers and fences
  • Frame and timber construction, including stud walls
  • Fixing cladding and slat walls with long screws
  • Assembling large cabinets and furniture
  • Loosening stubborn or rusted screws

Inspiration for your next project: learn how to build a wooden patio cover or how to install a wooden slat wall, two jobs where an impact driver saves a lot of time.

Features worth knowing

  • Torque from 120 to 350 Nm, so there is a model for light assembly and for heavy timber work.
  • Brushless motors (180 Nm and 350 Nm): more efficiency, more power and a longer lifespan.
  • Speed control: electronic speed control, or three selectable speed levels on the 350 Nm model, to adapt to screw size and material.
  • Low kick-back and compact design: less strain on your wrist and easy handling in tight spots.
  • LED work light on several models for clear visibility in dark areas.

Why a battery-powered impact driver?

Impact drivers are often used outdoors or up a ladder, exactly where a cable gets in the way. A cordless model gives you full freedom of movement and no trip hazard. The 18V impact drivers share the Maxxpack battery with 50+ Batavia tools, and the 12V model uses the Fixxpack battery. All models are available as tool only or as a set with battery and charger.

Need to drill holes as well? An impact driver is built for screwing, so combine it with a cordless drill driver or cordless combi drill.

Frequently asked questions about cordless impact drivers

What is the difference between an impact driver and a drill driver?

A drill driver turns steadily and has a chuck for drill bits, which makes it best for drilling and everyday screwing. An impact driver adds rapid rotational impacts, which gives much higher torque for long and large screws with less effort and less kick-back.

How much torque do I need?

For furniture assembly and light jobs, 120–150 Nm is plenty (12V Cordless Impact Driver 120 Nm or 18V Cordless Impact Driver 150 Nm). For decking, frames and long screws in hardwood, choose the 18V Cordless Brushless Impact Driver 180 Nm or the 350 Nm model.

Can I drill with an impact driver?

Only to a limited extent. With hex-shank drill bits you can drill small holes, but an impact driver is not designed for precise drilling. For drilling, a drill driver or combi drill with a chuck gives better control.

What is the benefit of a brushless impact driver?

A brushless motor has no carbon brushes that wear, so it runs more efficiently, delivers more power and runtime per battery charge and lasts longer. The 180 Nm and 350 Nm impact drivers have a brushless motor.

Which battery do Batavia impact drivers use?

The 18V impact drivers use the Maxxpack battery, which fits 50+ Batavia tools. The 12V Cordless Impact Driver 120 Nm uses the 12V Fixxpack battery. The two platforms are not interchangeable.

Why does low kick-back matter?

Low kick-back means less of the reaction force reaches your wrist and arm. That makes the tool more comfortable, reduces fatigue during long jobs and gives you better control over every screw.
