Cordless pruners: electric pruning shears for clean, effortless cuts
Pruning roses, fruit trees or a long row of shrubs with manual secateurs quickly takes its toll on your hands and wrists. A cordless pruner, also called electric pruning shears or battery secateurs, does the squeezing for you. Press the trigger and the motor-driven blades cut through branches up to 30 mm in one smooth movement, cut after cut.
What do you use a cordless pruner for?
- Fruit trees: winter and summer pruning of apple, pear, plum and fig trees.
- Roses and ornamental shrubs: shaping and deadwooding.
- Vineyards and berry bushes: many repetitive cuts in a short time.
- Hedges and borders: removing individual thicker branches that a hedge trimmer cannot handle.
- Green waste: cutting prunings into smaller pieces.
Our cordless pruners
- 18V Nexxcut Cordless Brushless Pruner 30 mm: an 18V brushless motor cuts branches up to 30 mm thick. The bypass blades make clean cuts that heal quickly, and a built-in safety switch disengages the blades on contact with fingers. Lightweight and ergonomic for fatigue-free one-hand use.
- 18V Pruning Power Set: a brushless pruner (up to 28 mm, with automatic blade stop) combined with the Nexxsaw one-hand chainsaw (up to 11 cm), a 1.25 m extension pole, a 2.0Ah battery and a 2.4A charger. With the pole attached you prune branches up to around 3 metres high from the ground.
Features that make the difference
- Brushless motor: more cutting power, longer runtime and less wear than a brushed motor.
- Bypass blades: they cut like scissors rather than crushing the stem, which is better for plant health.
- Safety: blades stop automatically on contact with fingers.
- Ergonomics: low weight and a comfortable grip for long pruning sessions.
Benefits of a battery-powered pruner
- Less strain on hands, wrists and forearms, especially with many cuts or thicker branches.
- Consistent, clean cuts, even at the end of a long day.
- Complete freedom: no cable, no socket, no trip hazard in the garden.
- One battery for all your tools: the pruners run on the 18V Maxxpack platform, shared by 50+ Batavia tools.
For branches thicker than 30 mm, use a one-hand saw from our cordless chainsaws. Shaping small shrubs and box? See our cordless hedge shears, or browse the full cordless cutting & pruning range.

Frequently asked questions about cordless pruners
How thick a branch can a cordless pruner cut?
The 18V Nexxcut Cordless Brushless Pruner cuts branches up to 30 mm. The pruner in the 18V Pruning Power Set cuts up to 28 mm. For thicker branches, use a one-hand chainsaw such as the Nexxsaw.
Is a cordless pruner safe to use?
Yes. The Nexxcut pruner has a safety switch that automatically disengages the blades on contact with fingers, and the pruner in the Pruning Power Set has an automatic blade stop. Always keep your free hand away from the blades and wear gloves.
Why are bypass blades better for plants?
Bypass blades slide past each other like scissors, giving a clean cut instead of crushing the stem. Clean cuts heal faster and reduce the risk of disease, which promotes healthy growth.
Can I prune high branches with a cordless pruner?
Yes, with the 18V Pruning Power Set. The included 1.25 m extension pole fits the pruner and the Nexxsaw, so you can reach branches up to around 3 metres high from the ground.
Which battery does the cordless pruner use?
Both pruners run on the 18V Maxxpack battery platform, so you can use the same battery and charger as your other 18V Maxxpack tools. The Pruning Power Set includes a 2.0Ah battery and a 2.4A charger.
