Cordless detail sanders for corners, edges and small surfaces

Some parts of a project simply cannot be reached with a large sanding pad: the inside corner of a window frame, the edge of a drawer, the spindles of a staircase. That is exactly what a cordless detail sander is made for. Also known as a multi-sander, delta sander or mouse sander, this compact tool gets into tight spots and gives you control where precision matters most. And because it runs on a battery, you can take it anywhere without a cable getting in the way.

The Batavia 18V Cordless Detail Sander

The 18V Cordless Detail Sander is a lightweight yet capable sander for edges, corners and small surfaces on wood, painted surfaces and varnished finishes. Its compact size lets you work in tight spaces, while the ergonomic grip and balanced battery position keep it stable in your hand, even during longer sanding sessions.

  • Hook-and-loop fastening: peel off the old sheet, press on a new one and carry on.
  • Integrated dust collection box: less dust on your workpiece and in the room, and a clearer view of what you are doing.
  • Ergonomic, lightweight design: comfortable for detailed work and repetitive tasks.
  • 18V Maxxpack battery: the same battery fits more than 50 Batavia tools.
  • Flexible sets: choose tool only, a set with 2.0Ah battery and charger, or a set including an 18-piece sandpaper assortment.

Typical applications

  • Sanding window frames, doors and skirting boards before repainting
  • Removing old paint or varnish from edges and profiles
  • Refinishing furniture, chairs and cabinet doors
  • Preparing stair spindles, risers and handrails
  • Finishing woodworking projects and fine-sanding between coats

Why go cordless?

A cordless detail sander gives you complete freedom of movement. There is no cable to snag on the workpiece or trail across the floor, so there is no trip hazard when you are working on a ladder or moving around a piece of furniture. You do not need a socket nearby, which makes it ideal for the attic, the shed or the garden. And with the Maxxpack system, the battery you use for your drill or heat gun powers your sander too, which saves money, space and clutter.

Detail sander or orbital sander?

For large flat areas such as tabletops or doors, a round-pad orbital sander removes material faster. Many DIYers use both: an orbital sander for the surfaces and a detail sander for the corners. Compare the options in cordless orbital sanders or view all models in cordless sanding.

Frequently asked questions about cordless detail sanders

What is a cordless detail sander used for?

A detail sander (also called a multi-sander, delta sander or mouse sander) is designed for edges, corners and small surfaces that a larger sanding pad cannot reach, such as window frames, furniture edges and stair spindles.

Can I use my existing Batavia battery?

Yes. The 18V Cordless Detail Sander is part of the Maxxpack 18V platform and works with any Maxxpack 18V battery, the same battery that fits more than 50 other Batavia tools.

Is a detail sander suitable for large surfaces?

It can handle small to medium areas, but for large, flat surfaces an orbital sander is quicker and gives a more even result. See our cordless orbital sanders.

How do I change the sandpaper?

The sander uses a hook-and-loop (Velcro) system: simply peel off the used sheet and press a new one onto the pad. A set with an 18-piece sandpaper assortment is also available.

Is the battery included?

You can choose. The tool-only version is for users who already own a Maxxpack battery; there are also sets with a 2.0Ah battery and charger, with or without the sandpaper set.
